RANKING ON INSTAGRAM IN 2022
As Instagram works towards more transparency with users in 2022, they have released their current guide about how to understand the Instagram post and reel ranking process.
The first thing to note is that Instagram has ranking systems for three different platform uses:
- Feed Posts & Stories
- Explore Page
- Reels
Understanding these elements is helpful because while following it exactly won't ensure that your posts rank higher, consistently implementing these elements into your content will over time help build a stronger presence for you on the platform.
If you want to read about the specific elements, I recommend checking out the original report, but in the meantime, I'm going to give some tips that relate to how Instagram ranks content to help you implement these tactics into your social media routine.
π Instagram takes post popularity into account. Right before and after you post, try to engage a little bit with new posts on your feed to help bring traffic to your account. Share engaging stories and create a call to action to encourage followers to check out your latest post.
π The more information the better. Much like Google needs context to crawl websites, Instagram can make better placements when it knows where you're posting from (ie. adding a location), and what your post is about. Using alt. text descriptions in the advanced post settings can help you rank higher as well.
π Give people the opportunity to interact with your content by interacting with them. Instagram is more likely to show followers your content if you have been engaging with them & they have been engaging with you. Try liking and commenting on a variety of posts to gain more visibility and open other users up to communicating and engaging with you.
